Expect Disruptions From Rail Lockout in Canada
2024-08-22

Dear Valued Customer,

Beginning today, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroads have announced lockouts at their terminals. This is the result of monthslong failed labor negotiations between the unionized rail workers of Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and the railroads.

As a result, some U.S. railroads are terminating connections to these terminals. We are anticipating sharp increases of cargo dwell times, which could cause significant delays throughout the supply chain as the options to get cargo out of the port and delivered to its final destination will either be limited or severely compromised, as many industry leaders believe that any interruption caused by this rail lockout will be severe.

With that in mind, we strongly recommend that you reach out to your logistics advisor who can help you identify alternate strategies that will minimize the impact this potentially harmful lockout will have on your cargo.

OEC Group client solutions representatives have begun reaching out directly to clients with shipments directly impacted by this action. We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to your client solutions representative for any questions you may have regarding this developing situation.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

OEC Group
