Work Stoppage at British Columbia Ports
2024-11-05

Dear Valued Customer:

You’re receiving this message to inform you that the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) has locked out International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) local 514 employees, stopping work immediately at all British Columbia ports.

Maritime carriers have already stopped work at ports in the wake of the lockout, and there is no timeline set for when work may resume. Capacity at British Columbia ports was already limited due to high seasonal demand, and the work stoppage is likely to cause delays to ocean freight and intermodal shipments for its entire duration. Those delays will likely continue after the port is reopened, as port employees will need to clear excess cargo that has been stranded during the closure.

Please reach out to your OEC Logistics Consultant with any questions you have regarding rescheduling your cargo. OEC is prepared to leverage its global network of connections to make sure your shipments arrive on-time, even in the face of a work stoppage.

Sincerely,

OEC Group
