U.S. to Increase Tariffs on Canadian Aluminum and Steel Products to 50%
2025-03-11

Dear Valued Customer,

This message is to notify you the Trump Administration has announced it will double previously announced tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel imports to the United States, bringing duties up to 50%.

The increase is expected to go into effect tomorrow, March 12, 2025. The increase is in response to the 25% tariff that the Province of Ontario levied on electricity exports to Michigan, Minnesota and New York.

The Trump administration added that, if the Canadian government doesn’t remove tariffs on American exports including agricultural products, the United States would begin placing tariffs on automobile imports from Canada.

The tariff landscape in the United States is changing rapidly, and we will continue to notify you as any new information becomes available. In the meantime, please reach out to an OEC Customs Brokerage Advisor or Customer Service Representative if you have any questions about how these tariffs will affect your cargo.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

OEC Group
