This letter is to inform you of new details regarding the Trump Administration’s recent executive orders postponing IEEPA tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports into the United States. The postponements officially took effect today at 12:01 A.M.
Unfortunately, the exemptions under yesterday’s executive orders are not retroactive to when the Tariffs were assessed on March 4, 2025. This means that any goods imported during the three days wherein tariffs were in effect will remain subject to tariffs upon arrival. Furthermore, the postponements announced yesterday only apply to goods that are USMCA eligible.
Also, President Trump has just proposed a 250% tariff on Canadian dairy imports and a reciprocal tariff on Canadian lumber imports to the United States. The Trump Administration plans to implement these tariffs either today or sometime next week.
Additionally, the Trump Administration announced it is planning on imposing reciprocal tariffs on any country that has imposed a tariff on an American product. The administration is expected to begin assessing those tariffs on April 2, 2025. Finally, previously established 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel imports will also take effect on March 12.
